The electricity you buy from your power company must be produced by burning fossil fuels or through nuclear technology. 
 
 
Either method is expensive, burdens the environment with pollution or waste and is based on depleting resources that will become more and more expensive.  The energy that is produced at the power plant must be transported to your home or business via infrastructure known as the power grid, a complex maze of transmission lines, sub-stations, transformers and regulators. 



This aging infrastructure is very costly to operate, maintain and repair and even more expensive to expand to meet the ever increasing demand for power.  By continuing to buy electricity from your utility company you will carry the full financial burden associated with maintaining and expanding this costly antiquated system.


For customers of Southern California Edison the cost of buying electricity could soon double.  Following is a chart present by Edison International showing that Edison anticipates nearly doubling the revenue it receives from selling electricity to its customers over the next five years.
